Seeing Some Instagram Mistakes…

Seeing Some Instagram Mistakes…

Last Friday I had such a productive chat with my contact at META... one of the big things we spoke about were the most common mistakes content creators do on the platform and how easily they can remedied in order to increase not only engagement but also following:

1. I really encourage you to look at your bio. Are you sharing what your strengths are and how they can serve your following (and potential following)? Do you have your email readily available? Pretend you're a stranger reading about you... is your bio enticing enough for a follow?

2. When someone comments on your page, don't just "like" the comment or respond, go to their page and comment on one of their posts. We probably spent 10 minutes just talking about this point. META sees that users that are constantly engaging with their public tend to be pushed up in the algorithm. It's such a simple tactic when you think about it: you are making yourself more and more visible. When you comment on someone's page now their followers are seeing you. You're also showing up for people that show up for you. That's such a major key when it comes to increasing engagement.

3. Happens all the time: you think you need to post. Trust me, you don't. What you need to be doing is posting quality and not quantity. A big point my contact shared was that posts now have a shelf life of 3-5 days, where traditionally posts used to peak after 24 hours. This is huge for content creators. It takes out the stress of having to constantly post. So take a breather, and ask yourself how many posts a week is do-able for you (with great quality)? Whatever number that is, stick to it. Plan it out.
